E-Learning Module: Solar Photovoltaic Energy
Solar photovoltaic electricity continued its remarkable growth trend in 2011 despite the financial crisis affecting some photovoltaic (PV) producing countries. In the medium and long term, it is expected a continued robust growth, with the opening of new markets just as Europe accounted for it until now. Within this scenario, training is a key activity in order to consolidate qualified personal in LAC region to promote PV development and increase installed capacity.
This course is divided into 5 lessons that go into detail about the fundamentals, sizing and operation of photovoltaic systems. Basic study material will be given to the students. Each module is complemented with practical activities and a module final self-assessment test, being those materials focused on LAC region.
The objectives of this module are:
- To enable students to understand the basics of photovoltaic conversion, that is, as the sun's energy can be transformed into usable electricity and the key element needed for this transformation.
- To know the main components of stand-alone photovoltaic systems and mini-grids, also their applications and basics sizing.
- To introduce to solar radiation concepts and their influence in solar energy conversion.
- To learn about the main components of grid-connected photovoltaic systems, the estimation of photovoltaic production and simulation.
