Outputs

Enter The ObservatoryThe Observatory will put at the disposal of the region four specific outputs to strengthen the contents of the Knowledge Platform and to mitigate the barriers to renewable energy development in the region:

1. Renewable Energy Technology Baseline
2. State of the Art
3. Renewable Resources Maps
4. Financial Benchmarking Report

Renewable Energy Technology Baseline

The Renewable Energy Technology Baseline will describe the current situation of
deployment of energy technologies in each country of the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The Baseline is an inventory of existing energy installations that analyzes in a schematic way the main features of the technology used as well as the specific characteristics in terms of energy production.

This exercise will help to identify the latest and more successful practices in the field of renewable energy in the country, which will set the basis for the State of the Art Report.

Additionally, from a regional perspective, the availability of updated information from different countries will be extremely useful for investors, policy makers and other stakeholders in order to compare and assess similar practices and common problems.

The Baseline, which will be updated every year, will be available online free of charge.

State of the Art

With the aim to become a periodical report of reference in the field of renewable energy in the Latin America and the Caribbean countries, the State of the Art Annual Report will be produced analyzing higher developments in the renewable energy field.

The report will consist of a detailed analysis of the latest and more successful practices in the field of renewable energy in the country. It will analyze and describe them. The state of the art will be developed, choosing those successful initiatives with productive applications.

The report will offer information of vital importance to public institutions and private organizations that wish to carry out projects in this area, since they will be able to draw on practical experience and thus reduce the uncertainty associated with new investment projects.

By carrying out this exercise, the technology gaps will also be identified, so that a new niche for those technologies that have been tried out successfully in other parts of the globe will be revealed. Therefore, the State of the Art is an important tool that will contribute to the optimization of technology selection, adaptation and validation process.

Renewable Resources Map

The Renewable Resource Maps will be the cartographic tools that will provide geo-referenced information related to energy facilities, energy potential and related issues in the region, in such a way that users will be able to accede to it on the map of the country.

On the one hand, the maps will offer detailed information about existing installations such as wind farms, hydropower plants, geothermal power stations, solar farms, etc.; on the other hand, when available, the maps will provide information about the potential of renewable energy resources as, for example, wind intensity, solar insolation, flowing water resources, biomass availability, etc.

The availability of this information will be extremely useful for policymakers as well as for investors in order to identify the most appropriate places where to invest depending on the existing room for more installations and the necessary natural resources.

The development of these maps is a capital intensive task that involves high costly activities. Therefore, it will be necessary to obtain additional funds to cover the cost for the design and creation of this output of the Observatory.
The availability of the Renewable Resource Maps will represent a milestone for the dissemination, in a very interactive way, of information related to renewable resources in the country.

Financial Benchmarking Report

The Financial Benchmarking Report will identify the financial resources for renewable energy developments available at the country.

Enter The ObservatoryThe report will analyze and describe financial models, mechanisms and facilities that can be accessed to finance renewable energy projects in the country. In addition, the report will identify and describe successful experiences. In summary, this report will provide the necessary information that potential investors need to consider to design the best possible financing strategies for each type of technology.

Additionally, from a regional and global perspective, the availability of updated information from different countries on the respective financial markets will be extremely useful in order to compare and assess similar practices and common problems.
